Crawley MP, Henry Smith, has welcomed news that crime has fallen once again over the last twelve months. Latest figures from the independent Office for National Statistics show that since 2010 recorded crime in Sussex has fallen by 13 per cent.
This trend of falling crime is supported by the independent Crime Survey of England and Wales and a fall in violent crime shown by fewer people going to hospital with injuries from violent incidents.
Commenting, Henry said:
“I commend local police officers for their dedicated service to Crawley; they can be rightly proud of their success in cutting crime across Sussex by 13 per cent.
“By cutting police red tape and getting officers back on the beat and away from their desks, the Government has given them one simple target: cut crime. That’s what they are doing.
“There remains further to go, however, as my discussions with local residents during my regular street surgeries suggests that the perception of crime remains an issue in Crawley, despite independent evidence showing that crime is actually falling.
“Our local Police & Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne, remains determined to ensure that local policing is increasingly visible and effective in every neighbourhood and I will continue to assist her in this ambition.”
