It has become very apparent that this current Labour Government under Keir Starmer’s leadership, has already run its course. We are now in a strange place where we know the Prime Minister is either going to have to resign or be forced out by his own party, but it seems the Labour Party can’t work out how to do it, so Keir Starmer’s government limps on.
It’s a matter of when and not if, and because everyone knows this, including Labour MPs and Councillors, it’s leading to a paralysis of government. Within one week we’ve seen the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, Head of Communications and Cabinet Secretary, all resign.
These are resignations of all the key people that run the Prime Minister’s office. Of significant note is that since coming into office 19 months ago in July 2024, Keir Starmer has now got through three Cabinet Secretaries, four Chiefs of Staff and four Directors of Communications. Most reasonable people would be right to ask ‘are all of these people the problem?’, or is the problem who they were all working for?
These resignations are in addition to the Labour Party Deputy Leader and Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, having to resign last September, and ten other ministers resigning since Labour took office 19 months ago. Then of course there was the forced sacking of Peter Mandelson as American Ambassador over his links to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Peter Mandelson was Keir Starmer’s personal pick, with the intention to cosy up to Donald Trump, and many believe, to smooth over the grubby Chagos Islands surrender to Mauritius with Trump and the US Administration. Disgracefully, it has since emerged that Starmer knew of Mandelson’s close links to Jeffrey Epstein, but he appointed him anyway. He knew.
This incredibly poor judgement fits a pattern of behaviour and poor performance by Keir Starmer. Among his many errors, he awarded a peerage to one of his former communications chiefs who had links to a convicted sex offender. I agree with the leader of the Scottish Labour Party, it’s time for Keir Starmer to resign.
