Today Baroness Thatcher has sadly passed, but her courage and her politics will stay with us forever.

The government’s benefit reforms are wide-ranging and fundamental.  They undoubtedly provoke strong opinions on all sides of the argument.  At one level, there is genuine concern at the increased costs and take-up of benefits.  This is coupled with a belief that such a continued trend could unintentionally create a dependency culture.

Households across Crawley will benefit from a real terms cut in their council tax bills, official Government figures have revealed. This is thanks to the third year of the Conservative’s council tax freeze initiative, which offers funding to help local authorities keep council tax down.

Following his introduction of a Private Member’s Bill last year and a petition this year, Crawley MP, Henry Smith, has today congratulated the Health Secretary, Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, on listening to and acting on the demands Henry laid out during his campaign to properly record recover outstanding debts owed from foreign nationals who receive treatment through the NHS.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer has scrapped Labour’s plans to increase beer duty in today’s Budget, and instead cut it by a penny, meaning beer will be a penny per pint cheaper after Sunday night – 4 pence per pint cheaper than it would have been under Labour.
