CRAWLEY BOROUGH COUNCIL ELECTIONS 2008 |
|
High Quality, Good Value Services
Crawley Borough Council is raising its share of the 2008/09 Council Tax by just 2%. For a Band ‘C’ property, this is equivalent to £3.20 per annum or 6p per week. The increase is the lowest in all of East and West Sussex and is the result of finding £3.2 million of efficiency savings since May 2006. This inflation-beating increase is despite Crawley receiving a rise of just 1% in government grant and having to pay back £13.25 million of tenants’ rent money to the government.
Council Leader, Bob Lanzer, comments, “The budget reflects our determination to secure value for money for Crawley people in the face of government challenges”. |

For 2009/10, the Council expects to set a balanced budget so that expenditure is covered by income. This means that we can start to use more of our capital funds for Investing in Crawley’s Future.
We attach great importance to providing high quality, good value services. At the Full Council meeting of 9th January, we tabled a motion, “That this Council agrees to commit to providing the best possible services to our tenants at the best value cost using whatever method of provision necessary to meet that aim”. All 10 Labour councillors present voted against. What were they thinking of? |
