CRAWLEY BOROUGH COUNCIL ELECTIONS 2008

Summary of Conservative Achievements

 

On 4th May 2006, we saw the first-ever Conservative Crawley Borough Council.  We have:

 

 

1. Twice set the Council Tax rise at just 2% - this year the lowest in all of Sussex

2. Introduced a new green waste collection service with one for glass to follow

3. Approved a £1.3 million improvement programme for more than 90 play projects, benefiting the maximum number of children and families

4. Gone green at the Town Hall, the Hawth and K2, with consumption of electricity down by 5% and of gas down by 14% in 2006/07

5. Cut Council business trip car mileage by 12% (34,173 miles) in 2006/07

6. Increased funding for flood prevention measures

7. Provided more online services including planning applications

8. Provided faster processing and more funding for disabled facility grants

9. Created a Green Space Strategy to protect Crawley’s parks and open spaces

10. Achieved a 50% rise in resident satisfaction with cleanliness since 2005

11. Identified more than £3.2 million of efficiency savings in just 18 months

12. Increased the profile of K2, successfully placing it in the national brochure for potential Olympic training camp locations

13. Protected sites from traveller incursions with none for more than 12 months

14. Increased funding for residential environmental improvement schemes

15. Opened the popular Crawley Skate Park in September 2007

16. Started a £60 million programme to enhance our Council houses
